What is 2-1-1?
2-1-1 is the national abbreviated dialing code designated by the FCC, nationwide for free access to health and human services information and referral (I&R). 2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember and universally recognizable number that makes a critical connection between individuals and families in need and the appropriate community-based organizations and government agencies. 2-1-1 makes it possible for people in need to navigate the complex and ever-growing maze of human services’ agencies and programs. By making services easier to access, 2-1-1 encourages prevention and fosters self-sufficiency. 2-1-1 provides callers in need with information about and referrals to health and human service organizations.
Wisconsin and 2-1-1
Great Rivers 2-1-1 has been designated as the 2-1-1 call center for the Southwestern Region in Wisconsin consisting of the following Counties: Buffalo, Chippewa, Crawford, Dunn, Eau Claire, Grant, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Pepin, Richland, Trempealeau, and Vernon. Great Rivers 2-1-1 has been providing comprehensive Information and Referral and crisis intervention services for these counties since 1979.
Great Rivers 2-1-1 joins Madison, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Wausau and other centers all of whom have been designated by the PSC in Wisconsin as 2-1-1 call centers. Staff from Great Rivers 2-1-1 are on the 2-1-1 Wisconsin Board of Directors.
Minnesota and 2-1-1
Great Rivers 2-1-1 serves as one of seven regional call centers for Minnesota 2-1-1. In its role as a 2-1-1 call center for Minnesota, Great Rivers 2-1-1 takes calls from the following three counties in Southeast Minnesota: Fillmore, Houston, and Winona. A comprehensive database of health and human services information is maintained for those three counties in Minnesota. Staff also continue to serve on statewide committees to coordinate 2-1-1 activities throughout the state.
Iowa and 2-1-1
Great Rivers 2-1-1 is serving as the 2-1-1 call center for the following five counties in Northeast Iowa: Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, Winneshiek. Great Rivers 2-1-1 has served Northeast Iowa since 1979 and maintains a comprehensive database of health and human services information for this five county area. Staff from Great Rivers 2-1-1 serves on a statewide 2-1-1 planning committee in Iowa. |
